HANDMADE PAPERplant fiber and/or recycled paper - each sheet is unique! | ||
Plant Fiber PapersLocal plant fibers used in these sheets of handmade paper are gathered from my yard and the surrounding countryside. These fibers need cooking to remove impurities, beating to roughen the fibers and allow them to absorb water. Then the fibers are pulled into sheets, ranging from delicate and lacey to card-stock weight. This is an ancient and labor-intensive process. Some fibers used in my paper are:
We use local fibers and flowers fresh, as they are in season for more colorful ingredients, or dried and pressed for more earthly tones. |
 The image above shows several kinds of the handmade paper we make. Starting on the left in the back row: marbled blue recycled paper, blue recycled paper with thistledown-some have marigold petals, daylily stems and recycled paper, prairie grass paper, yellow recycled paper, dark gray recycled paper, orange recycled paper. Recycled PaperShredded, used paper is collected, soaked and blended, then colored, or combined with inclusions, and pulled into new sheets of paper. Some inclusions used are:

Hand Marbled Recycled PapersHandmade recycled paper is printed with the ancient art of marbling. A painstaking process that requires practice to achieve the intricate combed design of traditional marbled patterns. You can also be very free-flowing with the pattern and 'paint' on the surface of the size. To learn more about the marbling process, click here. |
